Poised, passionate and purposeful.
I am a Kenyan designer at Rochester Institute of Technology, exploring visual systems,
digital interactivity and the intersection of function and form. My work is driven by
storytelling, cultural perspective, and the belief that design is for the heart through the eyes.
Kimalu
Personal Brand
Kimalu is the alias under which I carry out my design practice. As a natural introvert, I have found value in working through a defined creative identity that allows the work to exist on its own terms, giving space for exploration and expression.
The name is derived from Kiswahili, where 'ki-' is a representation of the mannerism of the word it is attached to (like an English adverb). Malu keeps the connection to my name, with just the right subtle abstraction to create the simple, elegant-sounding, and stylistic name. Therefore, Kimalu means 'The Mailu way' - Personal, unique, and inspired, with a story to tell.
